Background and Philosophy

200 years ago, equestrian design was based on abundant land and low cost labor. Barns haven’t changed much since then, but our lives, the time we have available, and our horse situations have changed a lot. Today, whether horses are our hobby or business, we need innovative and comfortable horse facilities that make horse keeping easier, safer, and more efficient. It is important have time to enjoy our horses.

Lynn Long Planning and Design, LLC provides equestrian design, horse property site planning, and project management for innovative equestrian facilities that improve quality of life for horses and enjoyment for people. LLPD specializes in designing Small Acreage Suburban Horse Properties, Horse Farms, Planned Equestrian - Golf Communities, Multi-purpose Horse Park and Fairground Equestrian Facilities and Resort Equestrian Amenities. Over the past 18 years, a multitude of diverse equestrian projects have been completed, allowing owners and stakeholders to have better facilities than they ever imagined. A specialty is innovative design for private horse property and strategic planning for commercial equestrian stakeholders, allowing both to have economically viable horse ventures into the future, and enable more horse owners to live their dream.

Equestrian facility design is very regional. Design and construction challenges are very different between climate areas, states and especially countries. Colorado Equestrian Design will not be the best solution in Florida or Asia. Lynn Long applies experience-based vision and creativity to find the innovative solutions to the perfect horse facilities, using state-or-the-art materials and working with the inherent properties of each site and locality.

Lynn Long, principal, has over 45 years of multi-disciplinary experience with horses from breeding and raising foals, training and showing horses in Reining, Dressage, Hunter-Jumper, Western Show Events, Cow Horse, to back country trail riding and resort horse wrangling. She has won top awards at the AQHA World Championship Show, and Championships in USEF “A Circuit” Shows on horses she has raised and trained. To accommodate this quest for quality for her personal horses, she has hands-on built and maintained her own horse farms and barns, learning what works in practice, and how to save time and effort.

In addition to equestrian projects, Lynn Long is also a degreed designer and US Green Building Council LEED Accredited Practitioner (LEED AP). LLPD has provided space design and interiors project management for large commercial Design/Build construction projects. As a result, Lynn brings solid business principles to equestrian design and project management, and can also integrate the beauty and excitement of the horse into architectural projects of all types.

A college minor in Geology has become invaluable in assessing topography, developing grading and drainage plans , and specifying materials for excellent, consistent arena footing for a variety of disciplines and budgets.

From this wealth of multi-disciplinary and practical experience, Lynn Long understands how to integrate smart horse accommodations into beautiful and stylish facilities for their owner’s benefit, utilizing proprietary innovations that take horses and riders to a higher level of safety, comfort and convenience.
